African music professionals from across the continent and diaspora can now submit entries for this year’s edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMAs) ahead of the ceremony on 18 November.

The news, along with a line-up of events, was unveiled at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The event is organised in partnership with the African Union Commission, and celebrates and promotes Africa’s rich musical heritage. This year’s edition will reward artistic work in 36 categories across Africa. Entries of songs and videos will be accepted for works released between 1 June 2020 and 20 August 2021.

The deadline for entries is 20 August.

The official 2021 nominees’ list will be announced on 7 September, and public voting will commence the following day. The voting process will close 24 hours before the main awards ceremony.

The news marks the return of the event which was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and follows the announcement  of Magic System member Salif ‘Asalfo’ Traoré as the new AFRIMAs director for Ivory Coast.
